COLSORT is a perl script based on an idea from Axel Hecht to parse a
pov-file and to extract the declared colors out of it.
COLSORT extracts (most) of the colors and sorts them by:
1. Hue (color)
2. Saturation
3. Lighting
4. Gray values
Further descriptions, examples and download at:
http://www.ica.uni-stuttgart.de/~marc/sortcol.html
You need perl ( http://www.perl.org or http://www.cpan.org ) to get this
running.
I hope you like it and I would be glad to hear some comments from you.
All the Best and happy poving,
Marc

Marc,
Before I downloaded colorsort, I wonderd what to do with it. Played with it a
little. It is fun. Though I'm still wondering what practical use it has to me
(but that's my problem).
Out of curiosity, why did you make it? Just the joy of making?
One little remark, the white text in cyan and green (colors.inc) isn't
readable.
THAnks,
Ingo

When I create scenes I pick the colors using the html-file created from
the two include files I mentioned. I did this with the html created with
AXEL's script. Now I can pick the colors from the sorted tables which
improves the process for me (and hopefully for others too).
I found out that limiting to a set of colors (in my case kolors.inc by
Ken) isn't hurting much. This speeds up development. If the color I had
chosen is wrong by a certain tone I look for a slightly differnt one.
The tables are of help here.
Another use would be to create to huge color database which could be
managed by this script somehow. I still hope it's useful. :-)
The color of the fonts have been chosen according to the mean value of
RGB. For yellow and green this could lead to problems but on my monitor
they are still readable ...
Thanks for the comments.
All the Best,
Marc

Ah, I see. I always type the rgb value and don't us an include.

PS. Have you noticed that, at least, within two hours Ken added Colsort to
the "25 latest added links" on povray.org.
Ken, relax and have http://www.cs.unb.ca/~alopez-o/Coffee/coffaq.html

Just doing my part for the POV-Ray raytracing community.
I may not be good at making useful include files, writting informative
tutorials, or hosting tons of great resources on my web page but I have
got links to resources that just won't quit :)

Hey, Thank you Ken!
BTW, this was also a test for your script.
