In trying to make a interesting movie idea, i found out that splines are
very hard to code by hand... or i just don't have the patience, i think
it's the latter... well anyways, i'm in the middle of adjusting another
program of mine(the start of a moray-like modeler for povray files) to
handle this task and work with them intelegently... I'm not sure at this
point if i can do this, but if i do would there be any interest in such
a program?

When i was working on the modeler i came across a few problems that
caused me to stop for a while(mostly to do with the no-multi-tasking
problems with svga(i like svga much more than xwindows for some
reason)...
well, i'm restarting some of the work... but i probobly won't be able to
make a true modeler for some time yet, i probobly won't even be able to
load(and draw) anything other than splines for a while...

would love to get feedback
    the Loial Raven

P.S. Have fun eh :)

You might want to look at something like GIRAM. Perhaps you can merge
things?
http://www.minet.net/giram/

There might be a few others under the FAQ or VFAQ.

If you are talking about something like sPatch for Linux, I'm very
interested. sPatch is a wonderful little tool (though I am having trouble
adding points to an already created spline...hmmm) except that it is in
Win95 and it's a pain to switch back and forth all the time. So, if you are
making such a program, I am very interested in seeing it work..

Have you tried running sPatch under Wine?

Ah! No I haven't...I may try that....not too soon in the future, however. Do
you know if it'll also run Moray or something along those lines?

I might as well try. I'll download Moray (yuck! a modeller! :) and
will check out later today when by brother gets back from work (I'll
need his assistance since he's root and he hasn't yet bothered to
configure Wine for my use)

I wasn't home these days :)

I got it last night and was disappointed. So, I'm sticking with spatch. Although
MoRay may have potential, it didn't solve my problem of how to create complex
shapes (mesh objects)....it may still do that, but I know not how. I've figured
out some problems I was having with sPatch before, so hopefully using that will
help best. I do enjoy the freedom of typed-by-hand pov scene designing, but
I lack the ability to create complex shapes in CSG :) hehe

As far as spatch or moray working, I woudln't see why not, as long as it can do
all that win32 stuff that wine does (IE it doesn't use anoything Win95
specific? Havne't played with wine yet...need to wait for my bigger HD to come
in)....
