I'm looking for some inspiration to write another POV-Ray utility. I'm
especially interested in height fields and the like, or creating motion
paths for animation, but any idea is a good one. I can't promise that
I'll do anything with it, but it always helps to motivate if someone
else is interested in the result. Post any ideas here.

I have an unfinished project. I don't know if you'd like to help. It
consists of a program for making cloth, for output to POV. Some people
asked to add heightfield collision detection support to it, so maybe you
could do this.

Andy,
I have a project in my to-do list which you might be interested in. It
will
be some time before I get around to it, so if you want to write it, please
feel free to do so.
What I want to do is to make a map with oceans, continents, islands, etc.
I only want to make the outline of most of them. In some places I will
specify the altitude by color. I need one color for the ocean (sea level)
and one color for unspecified height. The rest of the colors should range
from low to high. (I figure 256 colors should be sufficient.)
The utility should input my map and fractally generate a heightfield
keeping the specified areas at their original altitudes and filling in the
unspecified areas. I want a 16 bit tga heightfield output.
I planned on using a modified diamond-square algorithm to accomplish
this. If you need a link to an explanation of this algorithm or more info
on my intended modifications, just ask.
Please let me know if this sounds like a project you would be interested
in doing.

As many programmers as there are, that's how many ways there are to do it.
