Has anyone gotten POVLAB to work under Win 98?

The documentation says:

                - Be sure not to run Windows 3.x or 95, or for Windows
95,
                boot for a full DOS session (POVLAB can run under
Windows



A restart to DOS didn't help me.  Any pointers?

I'm still using Win95 (first issue), with IE40, but it works pretty well in
a DOS-box. I see no reason why it wouldn't work in a Win98 DOS box. I know
the dos4gw DPMI loader can be troublesome sometimes, but I had no problem
whatsoever. I would try Win98, but Win98 ruins my ISDN setup, so I'm still
on Win95. Only one thing: the "Path To Raytracer" should be in 8.3 format
(something similar to "E:\POV-RA~1\BIN\PVENGINE.EXE"). No difficulties
otherwise.

People are trying to port POV-Lab it to other OSes, so perhaps there will
also be a Win32 version once (POV-Lab is Open Source now).

I have Gotten the shareware version to run on Win98 it actually runs very
well.  although on occasion i do run into the built-in limitations....   but
that is to be expected for shareware.

My problem, is that with a separate reboot to MS-DOS, I get a screen which is 75%
black, with a truncated and warped band across the top.  The same thing occurs
with a typical Win98 execution.

Just what is a person supposed to download?  The POVLAB page offers a bunch of
confusing things. There's like a basic version-- implied incomplete,  an updated
patch which isn't clearly for the basic version, and a button which brings up an
Excite search of a hundred places to find it, some with dates a few years old!

  The 'incomplete' version of POVLAB v4.0 that you refer to is the same
package as the full version but lighter due to the omission of a more
sophisticated installation program. I downloaded this archive and installed
it into C:\POVLAB on my hard drive, which is where it *likes* to be
installed.

  The freeware patch can be applied to this version of POVLAB, as well. I
tried it and it works.

Well... it doesn't matter where you install POVLAB (i've got it at
D:\GRAPHICS\POVLAB).... The Setup.exe included in the package install it always
in a POVLAB dir created on the root of the specified hard drive, but you can
manually move the prog and (of course) edit the configuration to point to the
right folders.
