I just finished coding up an app (called, appropriately, "Fill") that
fills a given volume with spheres. It currently supports box, sphere,
cone, and cylinder shaped volumes.

It outputs to POV 3.0, and that's about it (for now). If enough people
pester me I may add other formats. :)

If anyone thinks something like this could be useful, it can be found
at:

  http://students.cs.byu.edu/~buck/fill.html

Hope you like it!

Excellent! I needed one of these, and was just about to start coding a
#macro to do it for me. This is absolutely brill, thanks. I'll get back
to you when I've tested it for my specific purpose...

There is a macro collection on my website that offers a few macros
that deal with filling volumes with spheres. Follow the link in my
sig.
