here are 2 files to create a rocky ground height_field.
At 1st, render "rockyground_dat.pov" with +fN +w520 +h520 in the command 
line (the field right to the resolution drop down list if you are a windows 
user)
+fN sets output format to png
+w520 sets image width to 520 pixels and +h , image height to the same 
value.Of course you may change those values (though if you take non squared 
resolution, the image will be unevenly scaled)
Use the output image to create a heith_field as shown in rockyground.pov
