As an off topic contribution to the bicubic patches discussion.
This ball I made earlier to test some patch generating
programs.
It is constructed from 24 bicubic patches.
It was constructed in the following way:
- I made a cube with 4 patches on all sides
- I moved all the points to lie on the surface of a sphere
- then, from the actual positions I computed the controlpoints
This ball is not completely round and seemless (though it is
remarkably good for only 24 patches), and at that point in time
I did not try that. I hope to adress that later.
My main reason for sharing this is that I feel that sometimes it
is easier to specify the actual positions and sometimes it is
easier to use the controlpoints.
