1. Intersect it with a lattice of thin panels (remembering to set
max_trace appropriately).

2. Fire lots of traces at your isosurface object and then join the
nearby traced points with thin cylinders.

3. Convert your isosurface function into three parametric equations,
then modify Ingo's param.inc file to join the vertices with thin
cylinders (which is how I created the third image on page 
<http://www.econym.demon.co.uk/isotut/param.htm>).

I'm sure that there are lots of other ways too.
