I have combined a proof-of-concept test with an opportunity for festivity.

This image uses a large number of faded light_sources with a seasonal color
twist. It rendered in about 20 minutes, which proves that UberPOV's faded light
adaptive culling is an absolute godsend (although no radiosity in this one). I
also tried it with radiosity only, but, as I suspected, the lights were too
small and had minimal effect. Raising emission and count would only result in
more noise, so I think faded lights are the best way of doing this.

As I mentioned, this is really just a test render; the light geometry is simply
glowing blobs placed anywhere that has columns. I need to model a sconce or
similar, and/or a ceiling version for enclosed areas, and be a bit more sparing
with the placement.

Anyway, this was too good a result not to share. Seasons greetings to all, and I
hope whatever festival you habitually celebrate at this time of year brings you
joy.

Bill

That's promissing, maybe a little glow and light beams in suspended media "dust"
would look even more insane ? Or what about a ghosted glowing sphere sweep
spline connecting dots, as racing firflies ? ... So that's already inspiring at
each iteration, thanks.

OK, I see that Chrimbo is a word of its own - I learned something new today...

Haha, yes, 'chrimbo' is UK jocular slang for Christmas... if I'd thought about
it for more than half a second I'd have realised not everyone would be aware of
that fact!

Christmas + Rambo? The new entry in Stallone's action franchise attempting to
unseat Die Hard perhaps :)

Ha ha we must be similar in age to think of those movies...

By the way, I'm thoroughly entranced by your project and I'm wondering, "Why
didn't I think of that?" You're doing a far better job than I ever could though!

Kind regards,
Dave Blandston
