In these thread I will document the progess of my "POVTONS" animation project.
First week ends with the setting for the real dimension of the building. It's
huge but there is still one half floor missing at the top. Criticism and
suggestions are warmly welcome and I promise there will be a lot faults to find
soon.

I like the stairway in the background; it adds 'scale' to the scene. Now, I have
a clearer idea of how BIG this thing is! I also like the tiles on the floor and
back wall, very nice.

I like the progress you've made so far.
How many frames were in the original animation, and how long did the frames take
to render?
What 3rd party tool are you using to make your mpg?
I've modeled a ... different very large space with a similar construction.
If the yellow rectangles are doors, then you're going to need a landing that
extends out beneath them. I'm sure you have that in the works.
I really like the concrete texture you're using for the right and left walls.
Your own?
I look forward to seeing your progress, and reading about what you learn along
the way!
(You might consider, for your developmental work, adding a small data panel that
lists date, version, filename, frame number, and any other details like texture
variations that might be helpful for debugging, commenting, and referring to
along the way.)

Thanks, there are 600 frames at 25fps. Rendertime varies from 30 sec to 3min per
frame at a resolution of 360p. I'm in doubt, should I use 480p or go to 720p for
the final version. There is a priority to these question because a higher
resolution requires more details and accuracy in modelling the objects.

I use ffmpeg in combination with some powershell scripts. So it's only one click
to encode the whole thing.

It's only a imagemap. I used a photo I made years ago and combined these in "The
Gimp" with a picture of a dirty chalkboard to make it more irregular.

Thanks for the advise. I'll keep these in mind because my programming style is
more than messy.

The round black holes need some kind of technical doo-dads or greebles lining
their walls (like sensors? or magnets? or some such.) I'm thinking of the
beautiful but practical details seen on the 'Atlas experiment' of the Large
Hadron Collider.

Many things don't have to say faults.

Thanks for all the comments so far.
At the moment I am working on the railings in the staircase. I thought it would
be easier, but I did not get very far with CSG. Did you ever shear a slice of a
round box differenced by a round box? Finally, I used the prism object. I use
Inkscape for the splines but it took a while to find the right points. Mabye I
am getting faster if I see the deadline comming. :)

Very nice work on the stairs - doing a brief search, I believe I used
http://www.f-lohmueller.de/pov_tut/objects/obj_150e.htm
as a base, and made whatever modifications I needed for my specific purpose.
For spline points, I usually use VISIO, or EPSpline, which was developed
specifically for use with POV-Ray.

Keep up the good work! :)
