Here's a new WIP I've been working on the last few days (ambient occlusion
render on top, full render on bottom).

I'm hoping your varied artistic eyes can give me some useful feedback for
improving the shot....

Yes! Yes! Very suggestive indeed. Could be a nice illustration of the Cold 
War era.

I really don't know how you could improve on this...

The AO version reminds me of electron microscopy images.

Nice. It's probably too late to nitpick any more.
What method did you use to get the ambient occlusion? I'm currently searching
for the preferred method for the pov 3.7 blender exporter to translate AO to pov
syntax rather than having to bake blender's own.
