Yes, in fact, in my curiosity I ended up doing quite a bit of research. 
  The model itself is based on diagrams I found of a sixteenth-century 
caravel, probably not so different from the original Mayflower.

Absolutely.

You know, Kirk, I'm really in for photorealism as the ultimate goal of 
raytracing, but this shot of yours really weakens my argumentation.
