Nice one.
Round off the pin ends for better effect. Also, I think adding some normals
distortion to the pin "roots" would be appropriate, tough I'm not sure whether
that is some kind of solder or a straightforward machined part of the pin
itself.

Thanks. The pins are rounded, perhaps not enough. And the pin roots have
normals, also perhaps not enough.

It did actually prompt me to fetch my original Pentium 66MHz CPU
(including floating point bug) which I never exchanged and which
is now enjoying retirement in my living room's display cabinet ;)
If it's any reference I think your pins should be slightly thinner
and the root a bit flatter. But what do I know of modern CPUs ...

I don't know... This is the exact type of image which looks like it
doesn't really benefit all that much from radiosity. Did you try without
radiosity (and possibley with properly-placed additional light sources)?

Yes, I'm not quite able to place regular lights in such a way as to get as good
results with radiosity.

I agree - they seem like DIP (solder-through) while they should be TSSOP
(SMD, surface mount) oslt.
