'Striking' is too mellow a word for this image. What an attention-getter! Nice
one. I imagine that the render took *quite* some time to get to such a
beautiful state.

  Feels like a bit of an overkill. I tried to replicate your image using
POV-Ray 3.6 and got this in 2 minutes 13 seconds, using 1 core:
