I am chiming in here after I saw this in the image digest. I like the idea of
showing the dowels and their holes. It really makes you think about the
structure.  While the original may be more "frame-able", this version confounds
the mind a bit more.

Thanks. It is an effective little trick. As it is more 
straightforward/simple than Eriban's structure, the effect may be more 
pronounced. In Eriban's, the wood colors do mainly the trick, while the 
construction is perceived as an afterthought.
