I've been playing with Blender lately, and I've made this object.
Converted from obj to pov with Poseray.
Rendered with Povray 3.6.

Agreed. Instead of pure black, using a very dark gray will produce reflections.

Reflection works with any pigment, its specified in the finish.
There are other things which work less well with pitch black
pigments, such as seeing the effect of surface normals.
