Or basically, two mirrors facing each other with the camera in between
(resting right on one of the mirrors actually). The media spheres were
added as an afterthought to make the effect clearer.

I created an animation out of this by moving the camera from one mirror to
the other, which gives the illusion that the camera is traversing the
"tunnel." It is located at:

This is my first post here and my third rendering (not counting the
experimenting I did while I was reading the docs).

Nice. Seeing as you are new it is traditional to do a reflective sphere on a 
checkered plane. :)

So if you give the wall a checkered texture and make one of the sphere's 
reflective that should do it!
