Nice.  However, I can see some black speckles on the far side of the cut-out
in the view on the bottom left. Is it a coincident surface problem?  Or just
something that will disappear when AA is used?

I've found that a granite pattern with frequency set to 10 makes a 
pretty good wood-like pattern.

I'm not really sure about it.  Using a lathe object with CSG can alway
produce some unexpected artifacts - in this case it doesn't seem to be a
coincident problem.  If I change the spline type from cubic to quadradtic
it goes away in that place and reappears in others.  Frustrating!
