This was a bug that has been fixed in the latest version of POV-Ray, though
I believe has reappeared in the 3.7 beta and will be fixed.

Thanks !

so I will try to be patient until the final 3.7.
In the meantime I will use method 2 and drink even more coffees while 
rendering ;-)
