Here's something that i've been playing around with for the last couple
days.  It's a combination of experimenting with layered normals and blobs.

That's one putrid colour scheme:-)  The consistency of that stuff reminds
me of scenes that I've seen in a sweet making factory, just before the 
mixture gets squashed and chopped up.
