The Roman column is probably a toppled trashcan; and "that thing" is
probably The Terrible Tentacle-Toothed Trashcan Toppler...

Ladies and gentlemen, on your left we have "Slippery" Sam on the sax!
And here's Bob "Slap-Bang" on Bass!
And in the back we have "Sunny" AKA "Terrible Tentacle-Toothed Trashcan
Toppler" on tin drums!

Maybe I should put a cat there instead of the sunflower. And I think I
must remove the "roman pillar" ridges from the trash-cans.

Updated. I have reworked a lot on the lighting. Removed the ridges from
the trashcans and worked on the door and windows. Hopefully this looks
better. Hopefully I will post a radiosity version soon.

I'm not sure what to put on the inside of the building that will look like
a blues club and not slow down everything even more.

Great work.

Something I am not sure about: Are the figures /really/ touching the
ground? From the shadows I would conclude that they are little bit
floating above it; e.g. the shoes of the sax and the stand of the bass
instrument.

You're right, I'll have to fix that up as well.

Maybe just an image_map of 'silhouettes' of people. The scene has a 'theatrical'
look to it IMO (a nice one), and such an abstract interior-club might fit the
feeling of the scene nicely--and without pulling attention away from the main
characters.

A really simple method which I always use is trace(). Even if you change
the surface, the figures always stick to the ground.
