Hi, everyone. When posting JPEG images in this binaries group please
use a fair amount of compression to reduce the posted file size on this
server. By "fair amount", I refer to an amount that still produces
adequate image quality that is presentable. Obviously, every image is
different and some images show compression artifacts when JPEG quality
is set to 95% or 100% but many will still look good when quality is set
to 70% to 75%. This could mean the difference in many tens or hundreds
of kbytes posted on this limited server space from just a few images.
Please use your own judgement on how much compression to use but *do*
use compression!

Thanks you all for helping to conserve our resources for everyone.

Another thing you might consider is increasing compression for demo and
work-in-progress images, as opposed to 'final' images. If for some reason the
image needs to be large, please put it in a web directory and provide a link
here. It really shouldn't be that much hassle for either the poster or the
reader, what with all the free web space available these days.
Also, if posting an image to demonstrate a problem, just a section of the whole
image might suffice. You would save a lot of collective time by cropping the
image to minimum size necessary.
This might seem like a lot of nitpicking, but server space aside - there are
still poor yokels who use modems, and pay per minute online. This is the reason
binaries.images is the only binary group I can afford to download regularly.
