Thanks to David Wilkinson, I've managed to put a fairly close
approximation of expanded steel into the headrack of my truck.

Oh yes...that REALLY is a pretty good imitation of the color of the
truck too!

Defective O-O

Glad you were able to use the isomesh so neatly. I'm now desperate to see the
rest of the truck.

Is there really a gap between the wheel arches and the sides like
that?

Are the wheel wells Iso surfaces or are they SuperQuads? Or something
else entirely? I like the metal grating!

On a second look I think you're probably right, those struts
coming down if the center don't help the illusion.

Me too...

I've been making measurements of the rest of the rear section. The
bumper and frame aren't too bad. Even the taillights are pretty
straightforward. But those fenders are a bugger...

The only problem I've had with the mesh is trying to scale it AND keep
it looking good in closeup.

No gap. That's a shadow.

The wheel wells are made from two cylinders and a torus. I built the
whole box as a CSG union, then differenced the inner surface of the
wheel wells out with the same cylinder/torus combination 1/16 smaller.

The mesh was in answer to my request for ideas in p.a-u. It works
quite well as long as you don't try to scale it up too high and forget
that expanded steel actually looks more like a group of sine waves.
