Hey all,

Here's my latest creation (it's going in my stereo image). The problem is I
have no clue how to make smoke... haven't really messed with media much.
Clues? Hints? Big chunks of code?

Eric

Well, one good way is to use an isosurface density function with media.
I think someone else did something like that a while ago.

Light something up? huhu, not funny. Actually I can't see your image
because the transfer was interrupted after 10 lines.
Anyone know a way of refreshing the post using Netscape newsreader?

As for smoke, there is a file in the Povray distribution by Dan Farmer
named smoke.pov. Somehow I couldn't parse it now (returned undeclared
identifier 'halo') but if memory serves me it was a rather slow scene
with a glass ashtray and very good looking smoke.

Halo was a feature in the 3.0 versions which was replaced with media in
3.1.

Thanx... this looks like it has promise.

The "halo" and "atmosphere" features were dropped completely when media
was added. You have to find an old version and use it to render the
file...or replace the halo statements with media. Unfortunately there
isn't any straightforward way of converting halo to media.
But once you learn the way media works, there isn't much of a problem.

Do you have an example handy? I tried that yesterday and my entire container
was filled with media, instead if the spiral that the function describes.
