The flame and smoke need to be done with media and the sky needs a
little something more to it, but it is a nice compisition.

Is that supposed to be a flame? I thought it was something gold!

I really like the non-traditional design of the train. Perhaps a close-up?
Overall, the image looks very crisp and well placed but I have to agree with
Josh's comments. Media would really help the smoke, and a few clouds in the
sky wouldn't hurt. Did you write all the macros?

It looks like one of the ornamental "crowns" that they used to put on
steam engines...

Stylized look to it. I wouldn't say media is always the answer if you think
of the artistic expression aspect. Although a larger starting size out of
the funnel would be good. The steam is also a bit dark, should be mostly
white with a blueish tint to parts I believe.

I've never seen an ornamental crown, but I've seen very few trains, also,
so I read it to be a flame.

Oops.

Take a look at the winning entry on the IRTC for the "First Contact"
category. Really good dense smoke on that one...

The smoke definitely needs work...more transparence, and more spheres
should help. Maybe also fade_distance, and you will need to increase
max_trace_level.
Also, they should come out of the funnel in an upward jet, not just
trickling out, and it would help if they came from an area, not a single
point, so it looks like the smoke is blowing out of the funnel.
