Looks promising 

I am not sure about the bluegreen structures, is it a texture-layer on
the X-s or a seperate object ? 

atmosphere and arrangement look excellent!

The X-objects are contained in a transparent superellipsoid with a normal.

Thats a cool picture. How did you do the lighting. It reminds me of the
effect on Return of the Jedi when Han Solo was released from carbon freeze.

There are two green lights somewhere to the right, one for the plane and 
one for all the X'. 

media and one in front with rgb 1. Both lights use projected_through the X-
object. 
Radiosity finishes the whole thing.
