Hi(gh)!
Since about two months, I generate running text GIF animations with
POV-Ray as a creative way to implore a dear friend to finally, finally,
finally buy himself a new laptop (after his old one broke down beyond
repair about a year ago)... and recently, I started using free Google
fonts (OFL license), but with these fonts I get strange XOR effects, as
you see in the attached frame #100 from my current animation... how do I
get rid of this?
See you in Khyberspace!

That looks to me to be some sort of polygon inside () test result.
Likely the font was lazily made, and so you have self-overlapping /
self-intersecting regions.
Apart from fixing the outline of the font, I'm not sure.
Have you tried playing with _inverse_?
I don't think there's an easy fix. Maybe try to find another, better font.
Maybe try a font editor?

Didn't work either!

I tried another font from the downloaded Google Fonts selection (i. e.
"AwamiNastaliq Bold" - which, for its Arabic/Persian part, might come in
quite handy in future Khyberspace!) - and voilà, it works!
See you in Khyberspce!

I ran a few tests using various Google fonts chosen at random.
This bug affects many fonts but, some of them are "fine".
You found AwamiNastaliq, which seems correct
