Oooh Nice!

- Good models indeed.
- Good stone texture.
- The plaster on the windmill needs some more work imo.

I'm a little bit irritated, The depicted windmill has no sails.

Not always necessary (strong wind). However, this windmill seems to be
'in mourning'. See:

(sorry, no English)

Ah, one ever learns (especially about the option to translate web-sites
from Dutch to German). This is a new aspekt I never heard of so far.
What I learned so far is that most of the wind"mills" in the Netherlands
didn't grind grain but pump water.

Best regards
Michael

Very nice... and Dave Blandston should place three windmilling
metalheads in front of it, if you know what I mean...

My apology to not having provided a translation, as I was in some hurry.
I do not know if most windmills pump water or not, depends on the area,
that is the western third of the country, but many of them had a
grinding function (as well?). In my former home town (situated at 4 or 5
metres below sea level) there was windmill for grinding grain. Not a
tourist attraction: it had been built there in the 19th century when the
Haarlemmermeer polder was drained. People needed flour for bread. In
turn, we always went there too to buy our own flour for bread backing.

Now for some translation:

"Rouwstand": mourning position, when somebody in the neighbourhood (or
the miller himself) as deceased.
"Vreugdestand": joy position, when a birth or a wedding was announced.
"Feesttooi": festive decoration, when there was something to celebrate.
"Korte Rust": short rest, when no miller is available or when no grain
is present. Often turned slightly into joy position to allow rainwater
to drain from the sails.
"Lange Rust": long rest, when the mill is out of order or no miller
present for longer time. Also when the mill is 'decommissioned'.
"Spoedstand": urgent position, when people are urgently needed at the
mill. Look carefully how the cloth is draped ;-)

Thanks for that Thomas. I hadn't realized the positioning of the sails actually
had meaning. I learned something. I think I will revise this and use the
"Feesttooi" decorated position.

I just need a few hours extra in each day and will get right on this.

Thanks,
Robert.

You are welcome :-)

I am curious to learn though, if this is typical of Dutch windmills or
if a "mill language" exists also in other countries? Up to now, I only
found Dutch pages...

I especially like the overall color choices in your scene-- a sort of
'restricted pallett' of colors, yet not monotone. Like a good classical
painting. It's so easy when rendering a scene to include 'all the colors of the
rainbow', just to BE colorful, when it actually isn't necessary to get a great
result.

Nice work!
