Why should that be? After all, "Hello World!" is *the* 101 cliche with *any*
general-purpose programming language ;)

Supposedly, the earliest known usage was '72 for the programming 
language "B".

Oops, I meant to say it was used in a tutorial for that programming 
language :/ But it was popularized in a 1974 memorandum for C programming.

and even man and info pages!  (I compiled it once some time ago out of 
curiosity.)

Back then, when programmers were REALLY long-haired and took to the 
Hippie trail between projects... albeit it was next to impossible to 
find opportunities to practise programming in Kabul or Katmandu!
