Very atmospheric,
I especially like sky and lighting - please supply code.
Beside I enjoy the background drama between the Mandalorian team and the "evil
boss" Kathleen Kennedy.

light is only 2 degrees off the horizon... srgb <0.9170,0.9170,0.6780>.
the background is an exr probe... added some emission (light color) to
the finish and i think i'm stuck using radiosity, because i couldn't
reach all the stuff in shadows with fill lights. tatooine is in a binary
system... so there are some challenges ahead

hey thanks... how about something a bit more dramatic! looks_like on
both the sources with high emission made atmospherics in background
pop...and the halo on the 2nd sun. 2nd sun also injected some need light
into the compound.
i think my next challenge is doing something to the ground. if anyone
knows of something procedural that would look good at low viewing angle.
wavy / ripply in some spots smooth-ish in others... post away!

There are some desert scenes in the IRTC from August 2008. The topic was
"Desert". The given codes are still available:
http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/graphics/irtc/
May be dg_desrt is the most fitting for your purposes, but I didn't
checked the code now. May be it is just a hightfield.
Best regards
Michael

Yes, dramatic!
For the ground, how about this. In the scene I am currently working on
since October last year (no info is provided until further notice ;-) )
I use a piment_pattern controlling several image_maps of stony grounds.
The pigment_pattern itself is also a stony ground image_map. Then
uv_mapped on a mesh, but an appropriate height_field would also do.

Of course. No problem. Please find an .inc file in p.b.scene-files under
the subject "Tatoine ground". Note that the code was primarily generated
by Poseray; I then built the final code from that, which means that you
may find some redundant code that can be avoided by the purist (I was lazy).

Let me just lift a little tip of the concealing veil :-) This is how the
final pattern looks like (with addition of some scattered stones).

I like it very much, especially the texture of the walls and the sky.
May I suggest some swirling sand in the atmosphere?

hey thanks again thomas... took some playing but i finally got it. i
replaced the disc i was using as the ground with a mesh i made in
blender. pushed and pulled the surface in a couple of places then
smoothed. i have it now with a downward slope towards the camera

Thanks Robert. And it is so simple to implement! I came very late to
pigment_patterns, but I am going to use it more and more in future.
Admittedly, you have to tweak the code repeatedly until you get it
exactly as you want, but it is worth the effort indeed.

Fun thing about this particular image: the basic image_maps I
downloaded, have - for some of them - a copyright ghost-printed
diagonally across the images. Embedded into the pigment_pattern, that
print disappears and is incorporated into the final result. :-)

And for those who were wondering what to do this week-end the challenge becomes:
lets reverse-engineer this image and find out what was written in the copyright
! ;-)

Yes, that's true... perhaps for really alien looking vegetation, he
should take a look at the desert regions in Satisfactory... there are
many videos about that game on YouTube!
See you in Khyberspace!

These are great scenes, the sky/atmoshphere is great, I have never tried any
Star Wars scenes before would love to give it a go some time. You have certainly
nailed Tatooine. (actually, I think when I first discovered Povray in the
early/mid 90's I did try to do an X-Wing, I am sure it was terrible and
fortunately have 'lost' the files).

currently using:
function{ f_ridged_mf(x, y, z, 0.07, 2.2, 7, 0.6, 0.9, 1)}
with a call inside a plain old normal statement
btw: not a moon...
