Very nice,
how did you model the background and the colloseum-like mirrored
structure in your tea-pot?
The background can only be modeled with xfrog and with some months work
to model all the differences between the plants if one didn't use a
photography simply.
I think your image is a simple modeled teapot between two photographies.
Really a nice image, but not really created with POV, IMO.
Best regards
Michael

The background is not modelled, it's an HDR light probe.

He didn't - it's an HDRI light source. I have the same one.
Not sure what the URL for that specific one is, but it's a pretty standard way
to instantly add a ton of richness to an image or object even if the backround
or its reflections can't be clearly seen.
A similar site for HDR sources:
https://hdrihaven.com/hdris/?c=all
> I think your image is a simple modeled teapot between two photographies.
It is, but it's inside a spherical image which provides the scene lighting and
the richness of the varied light sources and reflections.
http://www.f-lohmueller.de/pov_tut/backgrnd/p_sky10.htm
> Really a nice image, but not really created with POV, IMO.
Well, it is, even though the light source wasn't created from scratch.
What is "created in POV-Ray" can be debated endlessly.
I use code snippets, include files, image_maps, formulas, and all other manner
of pre-existing tools to shove the image out the other end of the work-flow,
before I lose the time/energy/opportunity. There's also the metric ton of
under-the-hood stuff that's already encoded into POV-Ray that I don't write from
scratch.
I've encountered people who have made the claim that "I didn't do xyz "myself"
since the procedural texture was already programmed into POV-Ray...
I suppose I could do it in ShaderToy, and then I'd write the camera, the light
source, the shadowing, texturing, etc all myself.....
It's still a nice teapot and pleasing image.
Nice work, Jim.

Indeed, ... "composition?" Can't wait to see the story telling image to come
with that awesome teapot. How was it modeled? it has a lot of style And material
color is spot on. Can't say if some kind of Maillechort / brand new silver...
but it does feel real... And (pixarish) cartoony at the same time :-)

still looks great to me, but you should draft the scene with all objects as
early as possible to get the composition right, layout object where viewer 's
eye will find dynamic and interesting to get back... hard thing to do when some
details are already in that you don't want to hide anymore so keep them visible
at all cost just becaus you took time for them... Layout to compose with the
negative spaces and waht will the averall combination of silhouettes draw...
Hard thing, or maybe there's just these two objects?

i already explored the smoke idea...problematic. i think diff hdr probe
and lighting would give better results. rather spend time working out
the (gnome) uv mapping in blender... i want to detail him out.

would have been futile, due to pending assimilation. :-)

I'd been thinking (naively) that TdG's recent cloud/smoke generating code could
be used (though I've not played with it (yet)), and an image[*] of the genie
"embedded" in the same volume; did a quick image search on 'Aladdin genie',
plenty to choose from.
[*] converted to a DF3, or set of.
have only a (very) vague idea of the hdr/lighting stuff, will need to read up.

Cannot refrain from commenting :-)
It would be an interesting way to explore. Traditionally, one would try
to use e.g. Michael Carneholm's SmokeGen, especially with the spout as
origin. However, a drawback is the multiple use of intersecting
containers needed. I have played with the idea of a single container for
a smoke column but without real results atm.

Hi,
I like the idea. There is a scale problem: the oreos are much too big for the
teapot and dwarf too small for a garden (though dwarf scale can be flexible
depending on what you want to convey and degree of realism you go for).
If you want more visual realism, since I would expect the dwarf to be bigger
than oreo, then I would rest the oreos upon his head rather than have him
sitting on them. This would require having that teapot and dwarf+oreo at
different distances from camera so they can all be readable : so The dwarf in
the forground and viewed slightly from above to preserve him from too much depth
of field blurring and keep oreo more meaningfull.
Thus the pedestal probably needs to widen and host all of them and why not some
initial container at its foot to tell a story... (indiana jones leather satchel
/Dora the explorer's bag?/...?) so that all these so different objects don't
lack a reason to belong to the same universe. If no reason other than artistic
license, then maybe they would need to be placed in a way that either asks or
solves some kind of riddle... What do you think?

Yes, those do exist. It's just that they are not available everywhere,
and, in some places, not all of the time.

If that's a pure radiosity scene, then, scattering media won't work
properly as it can't get illuminated by the radiosity.
That leave you with a clumsy mix of emissive and absorbing medias.

well i settled for something more real than sur... also ditched the
radiosity. pulled this one off with a point light that tracks the
hot-spot you see in the lamp. the fill light is a shadowless spot the
same color as the greenery. i wish blender would quit changing their

I like this version. One feels pulled into the scene.
(now, what is that strange object reflected at right in the teapot's
spout? Looks like another teapot. I had not noticed it before and it
effectively was less visible before.)
