Sanity check: orientation of church / sun ?
Traditional church in Europe, when not constrained by local
foundation, have usually main door to the west, and choir on the east.
the shadow on the house gives a high enough already sun, it seems
unlikely to be full east.

Another sanity check. St Kiaran's is church of Scotland. They don't hold
with Popery. (Anglican is less than one step away btw.) The actual Kirk
is oriented North, South leaving the entrance to the East in the lea of
the Westerly winds.

It could be given the latitude of the Western Isles.

Very beautiful landscape!
What is the time the render takes? And, what processor?

The complete parsing/render time for this image took somewhat in excess
of 1 hour, radiosity included. Slowest part is the water media.
System: HP Pavilion Elite HPE Core i7-2600 @ 3.40 GHz. I used only 6 of
the 8 threads available. I always keep 2 threads free for other work.

Very true. The truth here is that I did not care about orientation, only
about how it would look in the landscape. That said, we do not know what
the geographic orientation of the landscape is, do we? As far as the Sun
is concerned, I can indeed give it the latitude of the Western Isles. I
have not yet used sun.inc in this scene and maybe I won't as I am fairly
satisfied with the present illumination however.
Interestingly, and to my surprise, St Kiaran's church has not the
complete plan form of a cross. It is missing the western transept. Was
it lack of money? I have not found an explanation. Needless to say, I
corrected that flaw ;-)
