LanuHum, I would like to try your exporter. Would you post a link?

Thanks in advance.

I have ever heared that POV-Ray's sphere sweep has bug, don't know what it is.
And has it been resolved?

There is two/three kind of bug, presently, on sphere sweep in povray 3.7:

1. homogeneous scaling by negative factor also affect the radius of the
spheres (do not do that, or see flyspray entry for a correction)
2. solver might display artefact when the segment is perpendicular to
the ray
3. when using a non linear_spline, the computation of the bounding box
might be so wrong, better manually bound it if you can.

Create a subject on this site where we will speak about my exporter. I still
badly think where me to be sheltered.
I will see you in Message Digest

I an not to sure that I got all of the nuance, there. But I started a
thread called: Unofficial Blender to PovRay exporter, in
povray.tools.general.

I nevertheless will repeat the question: Your links are full Povray with a
patch
(uv mapping in sphere_sweep)???

My links are repositories, full Povray for Unix, as source.

There is various patches inside them. If you only want uv-mapping of
sphere_sweep, look at the latest commit (as per mid-February 2014).

Only impacted files for that patch are sphsweep.cpp & sphsweep.h

If you want a version far more close to 3.7 (at least the master
branch), you can also see:

https://github.com/LeForgeron/povray

Current delta from master of 3.7 is:
1. Displaying more details about error on the command line for Unix
2. uv_mapping support for sphere_sweep (with correction of FS#243 to
support negative scaling without getting negative radius for spheres)

I added your patch to my Windows version of 3.7 and the UVs work perfectly! This
is the gradient along a curve we've been waiting for :)

Here is the example sphere_sweep that LanuHum posted yesterday, using this
simple texture to test the gradient:

  texture { uv_mapping
     pigment { gradient u color_map { [0 srgb <1,0,0>][1 srgb <0,1,0>] } }
  }

This also gives us variable transparency, reflectivity, etc. along a curve by
using UVd color maps, pigment maps, texture maps, image_pattern, etc. :)

Here's some variable transparency and gradient along a curve. For me this is the
best thing since SSLT.

Today I could collect the program from this address.
As image_map I used a simple grid with the alpha channel:
http://news.povray.org/povray.binaries.images/attachment/%3Cweb.53122820745dbc337a3e03fe0%40news.povray.org%3E/grid.png

I saw some artifacts. Probably, sometime you will correct it

Well, I now have corrected the rotation of the mapping to keep a
rotating base at each connection of segment.

But the V part remains computed from the normal of the surface,
projected on that segment's base. For other spline's types than linear,
I do not see a way to have a continuity of the V mapping. (even with
linear spline, the continuity is partial: the outer part of the sphere
is a stretch of a constant-U slice, and the inner part of the "shoulder"
has a jump of U.)

Contribution is of course welcome if you have an idea for the continuity
of V along U at the turn.

My idea - to draw a curve, using bicubic_patch with UV-mapping instead of
sphere_sweep
Today I tried to begin creation process. I am afraid to break the head about
arithmetics, connecting patches to smoothing
I don't know how it will affect weight of a scene and speed of a render

You are to be spoiled.

Despite my first impression of impossible, it's now done.
(instead of constant segments with twist at spheres, it's turning along
the segments). It cannot fix the internal shoulder of linear_spline (and
it will stay like that for the years to come), but it fix the other
splines' types .

Code now in repository.

Thanks to Lanuhum's work, official Blender exporter now also has textured hair
Both patterns and bitmaps supported, though bitmaps are much slower to export for
now.

Now this UV textured sphere sweep would definitely be a much valuable addition
to the exported hair, is there any chance it makes it in official POV-Ray
version soon?

In what version of a blender the new official version of the exporter is

Taking an opportunity, communicating with the developer Le Forgeron, I want to
ask you a question not about a subject:

You wouldn't like to borrow a code of drawing of hair at a renderer of Aqsis?

Compiled with Python version 2.6.2.
Checking for installed Python... got it!
Welcome to MOSAIC Beta-0.2!

As you see on the release log here
https://developer.blender.org/diffusion/BA/history/master/render_povray/

The feature was added on Wed, Mar 12 7:51 AM
So you can either take the python files by browsing from the previous page to
replace older ones in your addon folder or download any Blender build more
recent than that from one of these sites:

http://www.graphicall.org/
http://builder.blender.org/download/

Unless of course if you can build blender from source, just do your usual build
and it's there.
