Btw, maybe you could start a new thread for this new approach.

It's getting a bit inconvenient to navigate this one - at least
if, like me, you have set up the reader to display all messages
in a thread if it contains an unread post ;)

I've already changed  my settings under Personalise->Message-Order to "Newest to
oldest"

No Navigation any more ;)

	View -> Sort by -> Ascending / Descending...

	Note that the “N” shortcut jumps to the next unread mess
age.

Same as in virtually every Windows program. Click on the heading of the 
column until the arrow points the way you want the sort to run. In later 
versions of thunderbird, you have to turn off the threading, or it'll just 
sort the entire thread.
