I see your cracked sphere and raise you the moon...

I used the code you posted in p.general, but I tweaked the scale somewhat. The
craters are courtesy of some code posted by Johannes Dahlstrom in 2002 (p.b.s.f,
p.b.i, Nov 2002)

I'm still trying to figure out how to do "Hero" craters, like the one that made
the crack...

You can assume that the impact that caused that crack appened on the far
side, and les your imagination do the rest...
Anyway, that moon took quite a pummeling.

Very nice! But I think it will look even better
when you remove the ambient light.

No ambient light, just a single point source above, behind, and to the right of
the camera.

By no ambient, he meant to add finish{ambient 0} to your texture.
Remember that the default ambient value is not zero.

I like it too. The idea for the image is great, a cracked moon, somewhat spooky
and mystical.

Nice. Very convincing!

Now you just need a hamburger-shaped spacecraft to fly through the ravines to
escape pursuit and unwittingly take refuge in the gullet of a humungous space
slug. Or something.
