Hi all,

I'm trying to put together a Lego Stormtrooper mini-fig model. From the
LDraw library I've managed to find all the parts except the helmet.
Having had quick look around on the web, I found someone who'd modelled
a Tie pilot fighter using Google Sketchup:

http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=e32c395165d58c1c55b5877bfdde751&prevstart=0

Using Meshlab I've converted the helmet into an OBJ file. Using PoseRay
I've then rendered the helmet into Pov-Ray.

I'm now experimenting with CSG/UV texture mapping to add the colours
and the pattern detail to the helmet. It seems quite fiddly trying to
line everything up on the model. What's the best way to do this?

Can anyone else find a better free stormtrooper helmet model?

BTW - I've added some of my Lego rendering experiments to my website:
http://www.pearse.co.uk/lego

Thanks

Reuben

Looks good to me. I use CSG for my LEGO models and generally avoid hats and
helmets because they look terrible. :-( Did you check out Anton Raves site
(http://www.antonraves.nl)? He has some nice pieces available you may be able
to import.
