High!

Does anyone here remember my announcement of the PoVEarth concept on
September 11, 2005 on povray.general? Finally, I found the time to start
with my contribution, and I hope to be able to devote one hour each day
to this fantastic project (hmmm, statistically, I have some 15000 days
of life expectancy left - high time to procreate some successors for
this centennial work! Or what about you all, throughout the whole
PoV-Ray community?)...

The longest journey starts with a footstep (Little Heroes, Watch The
World, 1983)... in this case just with a stupid light gray box floating
in a stupid black sky

Guess what it is... yes, it's a most embryonic version of my Cologne
apartment, currently I don't even have an idea how high it is situated
above the ground (it's on the 2nd floor), so I simply made no ground yet.

This sub-sub-subsection of PoVEarth could be titled "My Place in the
World", as a local (showing the outside environment within a range of
about 500 metres) and "microlocal" (only the inside of my apartment)
model... but soon there will by also regional (showing entire Cologne
and surrounding areas, but still on a flat plane/heightfield of about 40
by 40 kilometres), global (showing my location in the context of the
whole Earth, of course a spherical Earth, but, for computational
reasons, with a geocentric model of solar illumination, i. e. circled by
the Sun), and even a cosmic model, showing the whole solar system.

See this scene as a starting shot to PoVEarth... and WATCH IT EVOLVE!

See you in Khyberspace!

Yadgar
