Or maybe just an inward chuckle ;)
The scene was rendered in two passes. The first uses a technique I
recently discovered for blending an image into the background. This
gives me more flexibility than fog, and renders faster than media. It
uses Rune's increasingly useful illusion.inc. The second pass uses a new
version of my luminous_bloom code, which is almost ready for deployment
to the community.
Questions, comments, etc :)

Nice !
Im am impressed, as usual, by the combination of your artistic talent
and your technical inventivity. Please continue to produce new and
beautiful images.

Thank you for the kind words, Thibaut. I need to work on larger images
instead of all these small or unfinished projects I have laying around.

Thank you. I'll probably post a zip containing the POV files required to
use the technique. No tutorial for this one.

Yeah, I have it there too, but it only reminds me of all the little
changes I could make to improve it. ;P

When I defocus my eyes just a bit, I can see a blue and green noise pattern!

So, why are your "just for laughs" renders higher quality
than some other peoples serious attempts? Pfff ... ;)

Hmm, I see no such thing... could you be a little more specific?

Maybe it's the luminous bloom, maybe it's the radiosity or the faked
volumetrics... I don't know :(

Just for laughs!
Defocus eyes on your noise pattern, and snowman emerges.
So, defocus your eyes on full-color rendering of snowman, and blue noise
pattern emerges.

It's the old(?) fact that when you spot "Benge" as a sender from this
group, you already know you're going to see something very impressive.
Nice job Sam, once again :).
