     Yes, sure, it's basically this for the 'flakes' inside the stone:

    texture{
    pigment{color rgb <.2, .9, .2>} //change colour to suit
    finish{
      diffuse 0.08
      ambient .45
      specular 0.6
      reflection {0.4 metallic}
      conserve_energy}}

   I'll try some rounds and ovals next with different shanks.  :o)

Nice box. The hinges should be covered from the inside and spring loaded. I work 
in that domain, and have never seen any jewl box where the hinges are visible 
from that point of view.

have a ring like that, but most designs would have a curved setting to fit 
the finger. Did it not have this curve?

Yes I believe so but it is more than 20 years ago. And I never wore it so I
can't swear to it.
