You used an isosurface for it?  That is something that would probably be 
OK with a little CSG.

As for the pool, maybe a blob shape with a small scale value along the Y 
axis?

After seeing your alternate marbles, I think I like this one the best :)

One quick note, it seems to me that the shadows on the ice below the 
candle are too harsh - it looks completely solid (that *is* supposed to 
be ice that it's on, and not stone, right?).  I would make it completely 
transparent, and fill it with a dense media instead (in fact, that's how 
I would do the candle as well).
