Image showing light refraction of inverted lenticular, but
Even though I have color set up white, my transparent material turns green.
I've tried all tehse settings:
   //   rgbft <1,1,1,0.9,0.1>
   //color transmit 1.0
   color red 1.0  green 1.0  blue 1.0  filter 1.0
If I use
 // color rgbt <1.000000, 1.000000, 0.000000, 0.000000>

I get no photons being generated.

Any ideas,

I think we'll need to see more or your scene file. What photon settings are
you using? What is in the interior{} block of your lenticular object?
What's its dispersion setting?

[In POV 3.5 there was a bug that produced greenish spots if fresnel &
conserve-energy were both used for a transparent object, but it was a
different shade of green]

That's just opaque yellow.

What do you mean? That you don't see photon effects, or that POV doesn't
even shoot any photons?

Since you're new, my advice is to try playing with the standard glass
textures (in glass.inc) first & modify them to see what happens before
trying to create your own transparent materials.

PS. Your scene is very dark. What's your gamma setting?

The file was exported from 3DWin5 that comes with Rheinhart, from a 3dsMax
file. Quite pleased that I can raytrace models from 3dsmax, but of course
the textures dont come over properly. They are not transparent so I added to
make up the following settings....I'll attach the whole set of files -
that's probably tidier:

I noticed last night that I had no refractive setting on my material, but
that made no difference.

Getting closer to this problem with a smaller object - it seems the normals
are all messed up - got one image that looks like the ghost in the machine.
Suspecting the converter so , am now trying with the normals exported also
and parts of the sphere are now non coloured, but still some weird green tis
there. See pic 1&2.

the green came from, but I had dispersion on and for some reason my shapes
always dispersed to green.  With dispersion 1.0, the green goes away.  Stil
some eird textures inside my spehere though.

Hi Simon,

You ARE seing photons, lots of them. If you delete the photons setting in
the global_settings block (in your file "lent_test3_a.inc") you'll get an
image like this (no_photons.png).


And, perhaps if you use this include file perhaps set:
count 1000000
instead of
space 0.03
That'll reduce the number of photons to 1 Mio and renders much faster. Do
this at least when you're testing.

Hi again,

To the idea of doing refraction with normals:
I made a test render with a flat box containing a bump_map of an image white
in the middle and black at the edges.

Doing a photon render with this is not really convincing.

Aha!  I think i found something.  I had suspected that dispersion had
something to do with it, and your dispersion 1.0 trial confirms it.

From lent_test3.pov:
> interior {ior 1.10 dispersion 1.2 dispersion_samples 3}

I've noticed that photons don't quite honor the dispersion count; it is as
if the photons undercount the dispersion_samples by 2.  With your
dispersion_samples set at 3, you'll only have one color to work with--the
middle color of the spectrum, *green*.

(I haven't attempted to report this as a bug because it's less painful to
increase dispersion_samples by 2 than to bother the POV Team.)

Also, be careful with your dispersion compared to your ior.  At ior 1.1
dispersion 1.2, if i understand this right (not guaranteed!), the red will
not refract at all.

You prompted me to do a small test:
	interior{ior 1.2 dispersion 1.5 dispersion_samples 44}
Using a simple prism with rgbt 3 to boost the spectra brightness.
The red does refract a little. If I raise the dispersion to 1.6, the red refract UP
