I didn't sail a kite buggy but I used to sail slalom/speed windsurfing and
speedsail (big skateboard with a sail as on a windsurf)

I mean close to 90 degrees (upwind tack) because there is only few
resistance and relative wind due to speed make you feel upwind while you are
actually crosswind.
