Kinda. It does look like fire and smoke (though I think the smoke should be
darker), but the shape looks wrong to me. What are you using as a reference
image?

I agree, the lightness of the smoke makes it look rather small

hmm, you're right, it's too simplistic

not just one image.  A couple of pictures of both real and simulated nuclear
explosions

my sense of scale is off with the ground the way it is. not sure what
exactly, maybe the normal. the stem of the mushroom doesn't look right. to

actually it's neither.  It's no blob and no media, I used aoi to fake media.
It's faster and looks almost as good in some cases.

I don't think the stem is wrong, but the, how do you call it... the head
(the top shockwave) is wrongly shaped.  Should be a bit more sphere-like
instead of disc-like.  And there should be another "shockwave" of "falling
fire", starting from the top:
