Here's the next version.

First image just has more lights. (Render ~20 minutes.)

Second image has radiosity turned on. (All options default, except
pretrace settings - I set the end step size a bit lower. Pretrace time
~5 minutes, total render time ~4 hours 15 min.)

Spot the difference! (Well, these are JPEG, so it's harder. But
basically, the second image has slightly more yellow in the middle.
That's about it.)

To do:
  * Use area lights. (I think the shaddows would look better if they
blur as you move away from the lights.)
  * Use focal blur. (But not too much.)
  * Use Chris Colefax's lense flare thingy.

My God, this is going to *eat* my CPU...

Andrew.

Sure :p

As comment, I find the tree itself really beautiful (and that's a
compliment from some one coming from the mountains and knowing a lot
about these kind of tree (seems that my english is somehow deficient...))
But, what the hell are the bright discus? Should they represent lights
or xmas balls? It really mess the picture for me.
Ciao,

It appears to me to be the lights behind the plane of focus.
