Thought I'd toss up a series of Halloween-related WIPs. First pass at
getting the shape down.

Calm yourself, mate!
I used a high level of jpeg compression because I am going to post a bunch
of these in a row and did not want to be accused of spamming with too
many large messages.
I'll post full size with lower compression when it's done.

I liked the first one with its matt finish. What are you going to do
with the hole in this one? And is the torus really needed?

I thought I'd do a Halloween candy jar type thing, surrounded
with the usual candies and treats.

Heh... I thought you were doing a real pumpkin! The first one was
great for that. I was expecting the stalk next. :)

First pass at what we call "Indian Corn" here in the U.S.
Anyone know what this is called in other countries?

We can say "maize" in English, as well, although this is almost never
used in the U.S. However, this usually refers to the yellow corn,
not the speckled variety ...

Some more corn refinements ... more realistic color, minor
tweaks. To be continued ...

Gave the ears a row pattern more typical of decorative corn. Fiddled with
the shape, tried for more realistic colors.

I want that floor texture. Area light? Kinda looks like it by the right
side of the pumpkin. Hard to tell with that gorgeous floor.

Much more realistic colors this time. Also the rows in this version seem
more realistic than the later twisted version. The only things missing are
more irregularity in the kernel size and spacing, tapering of the cob, and
if you are ambitous the husk on the end.
Great work. I love it.

Here is the recipe for the floor:
plane {
y, 0
texture {
pigment {
color rgb 0
}
normal {
bozo scale 16
}
finish {
reflection .125
}
}
}
The light is a single point light:
light_source {
<-2000, 4000, -3000>
color rgb 2
}
Hovering high above is a very bright plane:
plane {
y, -10000
rotate <180, 0, 0>
texture {
pigment {
color rgb 4
}
}
}
