Hi folks :)
My idea for current stills round is a  deeply rusted Tanker which sank out
Brittany (France) shores 3 years ago and fouled the coasts on400km.
I have to work further on sea surface texture and ship accessories and
textures
but here I am so far:

Hi,

It's the first time I've seen someone trying to imitate foam with POV-Ray.
The result is fairly convincing, except where the ship intersects with the
water. A reference photo would be nice, but my guess is that the heightfield
is too smooth, and the foam is not transparant at all (should it be?) so the
ship doesn't look like it's IN the water.

Why and where foam exists in the real-life ocean, I'm not sure. Probably on
the edge of high waves? The foam in your picture seems to be randomly
located, except around the ship (I suspect you used a bitmap for this). But
this isn't too much of a problem I think.. Perhaps it would look better when
rendered with a bit of focal_blur, especially to smooth out the horizon.

Generally, as I said before, I really like the water surface and material.

It looks very impressive at this stage. I'm just going to list the things
that I think could be improved:

More sub-pixel scale detail on the tanker (bump maps perhaps, as well as
geometry) would be good, as you say, to really make it look realistic. The
rust texture is good - if you were being really pedantic, rust image-maps
around particular features (to simulate rusting around rivets, joins etc.)
would look very good.

The lighting seems quite bright too - if I were doing this image, I would
probably try lighting with radiosity and a grey sky sphere, to simulate
overcast clouds, with only a dim 'sun' light source. Its difficult to tell -
your water looks very well lit, the boat and foam less so (imho).

On the foam topic:

underwater (the green) as well as on the surface - this might be achievable
using media?

Very good image so far.

I totally agree IRL, water interacts with the ship, waves hit the hull and
get higher, make spray, foam. , the stem generates a bow wave.
I am far from reality.
Water is an isosurface, here.
I'd like to make foam with a media but I've not found how.

I observed that  some sharp waves ridges fall over and bubbles make foam
that stays at the same place while wave keeps on its way so we can see foam
a the back of the waves.

True, I do not know  yet how to do better

 I think if I represent the wreckage, i'll make something similar using
media of course
