After some experiments with different kinds of meshes, I came up with this
one. The mesh looks similar to those meshes used in microphones. My
intention was to create a microphone, but that would require a spherical
mesh of some kind, and I guess my mathematical skills is not good enough for
that.
But I like the outcome of my experiment, as presented in the attached image.

I like it. It's great. The texture looks very authentic.

The texture is actually from the Pov-Ray 3.5 help file. (3.9.10 - Working
With Layered Textures)
I will post the scene file in povray.text.scene-files
