You are right, it was "hand-blown" with POV bicubic patches.

I of course meant that were it a real object, I would guess it
was handmade glass... I was thinking bicubic patches, but
how do you make a glass object with patches?

I got it, just the process of connecting this patches together looks similar
for me :)

Why glass would be so special for patches?
You can set them to be transparent the same way as for any other object.

I was aboutto move on to other images when I looked at this one again...
and then tried to go look at others and stopped to look some more at the
vase. It's a really pleasing shape to me... Something about the shape
and colors to this image really works for me.
-shrug- One of those things, you know what you like and you don't know
exactly why.
