light really be just above the centre of the door? I think it should be higher.

wall light is 54" above floor, door is 78" tall

    Granted, but if that door is a standard 78" door, then the light still *looks*
chest height to me. I still think it should be higher so that it's above head
height. Sowweee...

Oh!  It is chest-height...ish.  But you meant higher as in 'above head
level', I had thought you meand 'a few inches higher'. hehe
Still...above head level doesn't do much good as most of the light
from the lamp is directed upwards and some to the sides.
