since a lot of people seem to be doing this lately I thought I'd join in the
fun and try duplicating a scene from the brazil website. Just want opinions
on the model so far

Those color panels should be a tiny bit raised to be realistic, shouldn't 
they? Without highlights it is hard to see if you have the rounded edges 
correct.

Is brazil a plugin renderer for Studio Max?
A POV 3.5 plugin to Max would be better.
(especially if it was PVM enabled!)

Good start, but you will have to work on the finishes.  Do you plan to use
an image map for the wood too or do you intend to do it with procedural
textures?
